In the capital city of Maputo, you’re never far from the coast and visitors to the city can enjoy the refreshing sea breeze at the many restaurants serving locally caught seafood. Travelers to the South will enjoy the splendid beaches of Ponta do Ouro. This area is one of the best locations for diving in the world. Its waters are alive with many species of marine life including dolphins, Manta ray and the occasional shark for the more adventurous.

The Bazaruto Archipelago is a string of islands nestled in a bank of exquisite coral reefs on the edge of the deep Mozambique Channel and is declared a world heritage site to protect over 250 species of birds, butterflies and crocodiles. The main islands are Santa Carolina, Bazaruto, Benguerra and Magaruque.

Vilanculos, 700km north of Maputo, is the springboard town for the Bazaruto Archipelago, chain of islands dotted along the coast.. It has been a favourite destination for South African holidaymakers since the end of Mozambique’s civil war. There are frequent international flights into Vilanculos from Johannesburg and Harare.
Inhambane is a tropical area with deserted white beaches and clear tropical waters, virtually undiscovered by tourists. The town of Inhambane is one of the oldest settlements in southern Africa.
